1. PROFILE ==========

Research --------

I study how the fine-scale structure of geomaterials drives their macroscopic behaviour and failure. My approach combines full-field measurements at the mesoscale, mainly in-situ X-ray tomography and digital volume correlation, with numerical simulations that explicitly represent the microstructure: enriched finite elements (E-FEM) and random field models of the morphology.

After a decade on cementitious materials and the durability of concrete structures, my work now focuses on raw earth, a building material with a low environmental footprint, and more specifically on earth masonry and its brick/mortar interfaces. Its mechanical behaviour depends strongly on water, which calls for a hydro-mechanical coupling at grain scale.

Teaching --------

I teach at the civil engineering department of IUT 1 Grenoble, mainly geotechnics, mathematics for engineers and civil engineering materials, mostly through tutorials and hands-on labs. I also teach image analysis for mechanics at master's level, and run workshops on the ecological transition.
